William John Malone, known to family and friends as Bill, passed away on June 24, 2026, at the age of 79, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Bill spent his life fighting—for his country, for his family, and for the people he cared about. From his service as a Green Beret in Vietnam to his role as husband, father, grandfather, provider, mentor, and friend, he met life's challenges head-on and never backed down. Cancer was no exception. He faced his final battle with the same toughness, determination, and resilience that defined his entire life.
Born on May 23, 1947, in Paterson, New Jersey, and raised in Totowa Borough, Bill was the son of William and Pauline Malone. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Connie, and his brother Bob.
In 1967, Bill enlisted in the United States Army. He completed Basic Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia, earned his Airborne wings at Fort Benning, and was selected for Special Forces training at Fort Bragg. He served in Vietnam in 1969 as a Green Beret and combat veteran, carrying the values of duty, sacrifice, loyalty, and service with him for the rest of his life.
For his service and sacrifice, Bill received numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device, Purple Heart, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
His dedication to his country and his fellow servicemen never ended when he left the Army. Throughout his life, he remained active in the veteran community through organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Chalfont Post 3258, the Military Order of the Purple Heart – Rich Quinn, and the American Legion. He was proud of his service, proud of those with whom he served, and deeply committed to honoring the sacrifices of all veterans.
Following his military service, Bill brought the same discipline, accountability, and leadership that defined his Army years into a successful career in the electronics and manufacturing industry. Through hard work, determination, and a commitment to excellence, he advanced to leadership positions including Director of Manufacturing and Operations at companies such as Orbit Instruments, Loral Fairchild, and Lockheed Martin.
Throughout his career, Bill earned the trust and respect of his employees and peers alike through his integrity, work ethic, and demonstrated leadership. He believed that leaders should lead by example and built lasting friendships with those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
On January 3, 1970, Bill married Jeanne Cincimino, beginning a partnership that would span more than 56 years. Together they built a life grounded in love, commitment, sacrifice, and family. Through every challenge and every success, they stood side by side, creating a home filled with support, laughter, and opportunity for their children and grandchildren.
While Bill was proud of his military service and professional accomplishments, his greatest source of pride was always the family he and Jeanne built together.
He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Malone, devoted father of Bill and Steven, cherished father-in-law to Robin Malone, and proud grandfather to Kate (Andrew) and Matthew (Tom).
As a father, Bill believed in being present. When his sons became interested in soccer, he immersed himself in the sport, helping build and lead the Bay Shore Soccer Club despite having little prior experience. When cycling became a passion, he spent countless evenings and weekends coaching, encouraging, and driving his son and their friends to races throughout the tri-state area. Whether it was a game, a race, a project, or a challenge, Bill showed up.
He was a provider, a protector, and a teacher whose lessons were taught through action rather than words. Through his example, he demonstrated the values of hard work, perseverance, personal responsibility, and commitment to family.
Bill was also known for his legendary frugality and determination to fix or build just about anything. If something broke, he would try to repair it. If something could be purchased, he often preferred to make it himself—usually investing far more time and effort than buying one would have required. Those projects became part of the stories and memories his family will cherish forever.
Family and friends will also remember Bill's colorful personality and sense of humor. He had a unique gift for finding something to complain about in almost any situation, often providing laughter and entertainment along the way. Those who knew him best understood that behind every complaint was a man who cared deeply, loved fiercely, and remained fully engaged in life.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of service, sacrifice, leadership, and love. He will be remembered as a man who always showed up, did what needed to be done, and put the people he loved first.
His family takes comfort in knowing that the lessons he taught, the values he lived by, and the example he set will continue through his children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.
He served his country with honor. He loved his family without reservation. He led by example. His legacy will live on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
