Meredith E. "Mike" Teates, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, proud Navy veteran, and friend, passed away on December 14, 2025. He was 98 years old.

Born on November 26, 1927, in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, Mike was the son of Elson and Mary Jane Teates. After graduating from Selinsgrove High School, he answered the call to serve his country during World War II. He trained at Pearl Harbor and served honorably in the United States Navy in Shanghai, China.

Following his military service, Mike embarked on a diverse and industrious career. He owned and managed a restaurant employing seven people – a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit. Later, after a brief tenure with Merck Chemical Company, he returned to business ownership by operating a service station in Selinsgrove.

In 1956, Mike transitioned into the transportation industry as a freight claims investigator for Halls Motor Transit Company in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. This role laid the foundation for what would become his lifelong profession. In 1961, he joined Harleysville Insurance Company as a claims investigator and adjuster, and eventually became a supervisor – a position he held with dedication for the remainder of his career.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Deans Teates, their infant son, John Philip Teates, his parents Elson and Mary Jane Teates, and his brother Kenneth Teates, killed during World War II while serving in the Navy.

Mike was the loving father of Susan L. Elia (Anthony), Judith L. MacBain, and Lisa A. Letizio (Barry), and the adored grandfather (known as “Pappy” or “Pap”) to eight grandchildren: Joseph Ault (Patti Ann), Vincent Elia (Brittany), Krista MacBain, Jonathan Letizio (Julie), Trevor MacBain (Danielle), Kelsey Letizio, Shannon MacBain, Jennifer Letizio, and seven great grandchildren.

Mike was a man of faith and quiet strength, and a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. He and Louise were avid bridge players and spent many hours playing card games, checkers, and other activities with their grandchildren. He enjoyed occasional trips to the horse races and casino and was a self-taught handyman.

Mike will be dearly missed by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and peace. Funeral and burial will be private. Interment will occur in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA 18940. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to warriordogfoundation.org in honor of Mike’s military service and love of animals.
