Maureen E. McDermott

Maureen E. (Watson) McDermott of Chalfont passed peacefully into eternal life surrounded by family in her own home on Sunday, August 24.  She was 56.

"Mo", or "Reen", as she was sometimes called, brought joy and hospitality to every gathering of family and friends. She was a lover of animals and nature and dedicated her working life to caring for the environment.

Maureen was born August 27, 1968, the sixth of six children of the late Barbara A. and Edward R. Watson, Sr.  She grew up in Feasterville and was a 1986 graduate of Neshaminy High School.  Maureen earned a bachelor's degree from Penn State in 1998 and began work soo after as a soil scientist specializing in wetlands.

Maureen was the wife of Mark McDermott and is survived by four siblings: E. Ron Watson (Diane), of Ottsville; Vicki Pavlas of Philip, SD; Michael Watson (Cindy) of Huntingdon Valley and Barbi Haffner (Steve) of Bensalem.  Also, surviving are two dozen nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by sister Patti (Alan) Gaebel.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 11 AM Thursday August 28, 2025, at Scanlin McDonald Funeral Home 175 East Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914.  Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at the funeral home Thursday after 10 AM.  Entombment to follow the service at St. John Neumann Cemetery.
