Matthew M. Donnelly, age 52, of Chestnut Hill, PA, passed away on February 13, 2026, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He faced his diagnosis with extraordinary strength, never losing the warmth, kindness, and humor that defined his life. His final days were surrounded by love especially from his devoted wife, his large and loving family and his beloved companions, Bo and Bear.
Matt’s life revolved around family and his wide circle of friends. He gave wholeheartedly to everyone in his orbit, serving as a steady anchor and unwavering example of resilience, loyalty and integrity.
He was the beloved husband of Nicole Donnelly (née Gardner); cherished son of Joseph V. Donnelly and Elizabeth M. Donnelly; and devoted brother of Lisa Donnelly Denton (Jeff), Jennifer Donnelly Lussier, Christopher Donnelly (Nicole), and Debra Donnelly (Patrick McKeon). He was also a proud uncle to his many nieces and nephews, who absolutely adored him.
Raised in the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, Matt attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School. He was a proud graduate of William Penn Charter School (‘92), The Hill School (‘93) and Lehigh University (’97). While at Lehigh, he was a member of the men’s lacrosse team, served as sports editor of The Brown and White and was a brother of Theta Xi fraternity. Professionally, Matt built a successful 30-year career in sales, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Matt and Nicole shared a love of travel, exploring many favorite destinations around the world. He also treasured summers spent at the Jersey Shore creating cherished memories with those he loved. The world lost a beautiful soul far too soon, but Matt’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him through the countless memories he leaves behind.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128, followed immediately by his Funeral Mass.
