Harry J. Maurer Sr., 89, passed away on June 25, 2025. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years – Ethel (nee Logue), devoted daughter Jacqueline Kugler (Michael) and 4 adoring grandchildren: Cecile Urmanihazi, Megan Kugler, Christopher Kugler, Kelly Kugler. Preceded in death by his son, Harry, Jr.

Harry was an incredible: Son, brother, friend, neighbor, coworker, mentor, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather.

He was a US Navy Veteran serving as an aviation mechanic between the Korean and Vietnam wars. Harry started working at his Grandfather's lock shop on the 2nd floor in the 900 block of 13th St. In Philadelphia when he was 8 years old. It is there that he learned the locksmith business from his grandfather. They had been in business since 1898 (Herman Henssler Locksmith @ 13 th & Girard in Phila). He was a proud member of the Greater Philadelphia Locksmith Association and Associated Locksmiths of America. Through the years, Harry served every position of officers and board member for GPLA. His contributions to GPLA were huge, according to their current board. 

After selling the business in the late 90’s, Harry continued to work for Vans Lock Shop in Ardsley, Pa until he was 89 years old. Harry did not work out of necessity, but for the love of the business and the interaction of the Van’s team. 

Harry was an exceptional locksmith and has brought so much knowledge to the locksmith trade through the years. His calm and sincere demeanor has been appreciated by the many locksmiths he taught. 

Harry loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always very generous with his time and enjoyed helping people. Harry was an avid traveler. He and Ethel visited many places around the world, but always had a deep connection to Hawaii, visiting there dozens of times over the year.
