Harriet M. Sedgwick (née Nilsson), 79, a resident of Hatfield, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024. Born in Philadelphia (Manayunk), she was the daughter of the late Arnold F. and Margaret (McPeake) Nilsson, and the sister of the late Arnold F. Nilsson Jr., Elizabeth (Sis) Costa and Margaret Viola. Harriet was the beloved wife of the late William Arthur Sedgwick, Jr. "Bill" for 52 years and survived by her loving children Alison Pluck (Joseph), William R. Sedgwick (Colleen), Christian M. Sedgwick (Janet) and Lauren Pownall (Kevin); and 13 cherished grandchildren. She was also a caring aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a dear and loyal friend to many whom she had met during her lifetime.

Harriet, a woman of grace, elegance, and unwavering faith, has left an enduring legacy. Harriet was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a constant presence in her family’s life, always offering wisdom and words of encouragement. She prioritized family time with her children and grandchildren. Harriet was present in every aspect of their lives, celebrating milestones with enthusiasm and joy. Her love for her grandchildren was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was often found cheering for her grandkids at every sporting or school event. She was a dedicated homemaker, but outside the home her work career began humbly, marked by hard work and determination. From her early days as a house cleaner to her successful career in bridal sales, she consistently strived for excellence. At Priscilla of Boston Bridal, Harriet was more than just a saleswoman; she was a confidante, a stylist, and a friend. With an innate sense of style and a warm, welcoming demeanor, she had the remarkable ability to make every bride feel special and beautiful.

She was a woman of many talents, competitive, but also incredibly humble. She often downplayed her many accomplishments and preferred to focus on the positive qualities of others. Her self-deprecating humor and quick wit made her a joy to be around. Playing pickleball at the courts of Hatfield Township and friendly cards games with her neighbors in Tarrington Village brought much enjoyment in her later years.

Harriet's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a diligent student of the bible, always researching the scriptures to "study to show thyself approved unto God” (2 Timothy 2:15). You would often see her piled behind books as she searched the scripture to learn the Hebrew or Greek text to understand, teach and apply God’s word. Throughout her lifetime, she had opened her home to people from all walks of life for weekly Bible fellowships, fostering a sense of community and spiritual growth. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her daily life, and she inspired others to live with purpose and hope. She wanted everyone to know and believe in the greatness of God and His word. To be in awe of God and his son, Jesus Christ, ultimately to realize we will eternally be with Him.

We mourn the loss of this extraordinary woman, let us celebrate her life and honor her memory. May her spirit of kindness, compassion, and faith continue to inspire us all.
