Fred Allegrezza, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 11, 2026, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born in Ambler, Pennsylvania, in 1958, Fred built a remarkable life defined by family, generosity, technology and innovation, and an enduring desire to help others. He graduated from Upper Dublin High School in 1976 and then Drexel University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to build an accomplished career as an engineer, entrepreneur, executive, inventor, and investor.

Fred began his career in 1981 at Moore Products as manager of Product Development. Next, at General Instrument he worked as a Program Manager and Senior Systems Engineer, helping to lead the development of interactive cable television systems.

In 1996, Fred founded Vivid Technology, beginning the entrepreneurial chapter of his career.  The Video On Demand company grew into an industry leader before merging with Concurrent Computer Corporation in 1999; Fred then served as Chief Technology Officer of Concurrent as the company continued to grow. Vivid/Concurrent ultimately captured approximately 40 percent of the cable Video On Demand market. Fred was also the named inventor on five U.S. patent applications related to Video On Demand technology.

His career also included work and leadership with Everstream, OpGate, Vertasent, Motorola, AnySource Media, Telikin/Venture 3 Systems, and Freedom Insurance Group, where he helped his sister, Anita, establish and grow the agency.

One of Fred’s most personal entrepreneurial ventures grew directly from his desire to help his own mother. Telikin, an easy-to-use computer, stemmed from his desire to help her remain connected with family after she moved into a continuing care retirement community. It was characteristic of Fred that even an innovative business idea could begin with a simple question: how can I make life better for someone I love?

While Fred’s professional accomplishments were significant, those closest to him knew that people always came first. He was the kind of person who made time for the people he loved, no matter how many businesses, ideas, or projects demanded his attention.

Fred married Nancy Frankenfield in 1985, and together they built a close and loving family.  Following the early death of his father, Fred took on an especially important role within his large family. He was always willing to lend a hand, whether helping with a household project, visiting family, gathering everyone together for birthdays and holidays, or opening his Beach Haven home so the extended family could vacation together. He worked to keep family traditions alive and family relationships strong.

As a father, Fred supported his children wholeheartedly. He coached Little League baseball, watched dance recitals, helped with schoolwork, and encouraged his children to pursue careers they were passionate about—work that could serve others while also allowing them to provide for their own families. More than anything, however, he taught through his example the importance of being there for the people you love and believing the best in every person. 

That spirit of service extended far beyond his immediate family. Fred gave generously throughout his life to people and organizations in need. His support included starting the Nursing Excellence Award at Gwynedd Mercy University, laptops for families at his children’s elementary school, missionary work in Haiti, and families and projects at Faith Lutheran Church in Montgomeryville.

In recognition of both his professional accomplishments and the character with which he lived his life, Fred was inducted into the Upper Dublin High School Alumni Hall of Fame in 2021. 

Fred also loved to travel and was always eager for the next adventure. He earned his Private Pilot’s License and enjoyed taking to the skies in his Cirrus, whether flying to visit family or getting away to a favorite spot with Nancy.

Even in his hobbies, Fred was action-oriented and people-focused. He enjoyed DIY projects, often helping others on home improvement projects. Fred cherished time spent at the family’s home in Beach Haven, the setting of many treasured memories with family and friends, including excursions out to the bay on his boat.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Michael, and Michael’s wife, Lauren, and their children, Natalie and Reese; and his daughter, Lauren, and her husband, Chris, and their children, Ezra and Micah. He is also survived by his siblings Guido Allegrezza and his wife, Pam; Mary Lou Cook and her husband, Chuck; Carol Mears and her husband, Richard; Anita Allegrezza and her husband, Damian; and Jack Allegrezza; his brother-in-law, Steve McPhilmy; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guido and Lillian Allegrezza, his sister Beth, and his brother Thomas.

Fred will be remembered not only as a successful entrepreneur and innovator, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His generosity, ingenuity, drive, loyalty to family, and willingness to use his talents and resources to make life better for others were hallmarks of the way he lived. His accomplishments were many, but his greatest legacy is found in the people he loved, supported, encouraged, and brought together.

A visitation time will be held on Sunday, Sep. 20th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Scanlin-McDonald Funeral Home 175 E Butler Ave, Chalfont, PA 18914.

Services will be held on Monday, Sep. 21st at Christ’s Lutheran Church at 700 East Pennsylvania Ave, Oreland, PA 19075 at 11:00 am with a visitation time starting at 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, or to the ALS Research Fund at the University of Pennsylvania.
