Fernando Lara

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Fernando Lara, of Chalfont, PA, who passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 88. Fernando was born in Riobamba, Ecuador and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

After growing up in a small town in Ecuador, Fernando began his professional career at the Quito Hotel after completing college and getting married. Upon the birth of his first child, Fernando came to New York City with a suitcase and the money in his pocket to start a new life for his family. His motivation, creativity and intelligence helped him land employment and a place to stay and soon thereafter he was joined by his wife and daughter in Queens, NY. He worked as a corporate and tax accounting manager at a number of large corporations near his various residences in Queens, NY, Lansdale, PA, Trumbull, CT and Cincinnati, OH. 

Fernando loved God, food, laughter, playing sports, and spending time with friends and family. Though his jokes were sometimes as likely to draw eyerolls as they were to draw laughs, he was never afraid to share his humor with family, friends, and (sometimes puzzled) strangers. He was a dedicated father and adoring husband who sacrificed his career potential to be home in time for dinner every night. Though separated from his family in Ecuador, he generously supported his mother and sisters while making his way in a new country. 

Fernando was the devoted husband of the late Ligia L. Lara. Father of the late Jeannette Lee (John), Alice Stagliano (the late Joseph), Fred Lara (Jennifer). Grandfather of Rachel, Rebecca, Christopher, Isabella, Andrew, Samantha and Avery. Funeral Service 1 PM Sunday November 9, 2025, at Scanlin McDonald Funeral Home 175 East Butler Avenue Chalfont, PA 18914. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home Sunday after 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Prostate Cancer Foundation would be appreciated.
