Obituary

Doris Helen Ambrose Edling of Prospectville, PA, gently passed away into the arms of God on April 26, 2026, after a decade’s long battle with progressive dementia. Born on July 2, 1933, she was raised in Manayunk and attended St. John’s High School, where she met the love of her life, Jack Edling.

The daughter of the late Helen Josephine Modres and Daniel Patrick Ambrose, Doris was raised by her father and Aunt Marie, along with many cousins. She became a woman of strength and endurance, with a great sense of humor – able to dish it out, and able to take it. She was a no-nonsense spirit who generously shared her opinions with everyone – you always knew where Doris stood.

In their 20’s, Doris and Jack moved their family from Manayunk to Prospectville, PA where they shared a wonderful family life for over 60 years. At the age of 33 with six children in hand, she supported Jack’s decision to quit his job and launch his own business. Together they created a family-owned steel erecting business which they operated out of their home for almost 50 years.

Without any prior athletic abilities, she took up golf in her forties, becoming a competitive golfer and fun teammate. During their 46 years at Old York Road Country Club, she and Jack made great friends, enjoying dinners out, games, travel and so much more. Those friendships endured the remainder of their lives.

Doris was also an avid gardener and loved creating flower arrangements to share with family and friends.  She joyfully shared her love of crafts and artistic talent with her daughters and daughters-in-law, who she would enlist to help her support the annual Christmas craft shows at the church. In her later years, Doris would donate much of her time to her beloved Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church and Old York Road Country Club where she would decorate for holidays and special occasions.

Family was everything to Doris and Jack. Doris tirelessly helped raise their six children who are grateful for all her love, care and dedication. We thank her for the countless meals and a childhood packed with fun and laughter. As our families grew her holiday meals became a tradition everyone looked forward to.  Spending time together as a family, in Prospectville or Eagles Mere always brought everyone joy. We thank her for teaching us what it is to be truly supportive. We thank her for the wonderful life she shared with us.

Doris Edling is survived by her loving family: Jack Edling, Jr. of North Wales; Karen and Rick Lawinski of Beesley’s Point, NJ; Dan and Cheryle Edling of Chalfont; Gary and Ginger Edling of Erdenheim; Steven and Eileen Edling of Lansdale; and Susan and John Dachowshi of Warrington, PA. Doris is also survived by her adoring and ever-expanding family legacy of 19 grandchildren and 25 great- grandchildren, all who loved her dearly.

Doris is pre-deceased by Jack Edling, Sr., her husband of 53 years, and her great-grandson, Rylan Dachowski.
